The ISY Makerspace is a place for students to create, invent, tinker, build and learn. Due to the hands on nature of our activities, responsible behavior is expected. The following guidelines and rules must be followed at all times. After reading over the guidelines and rules, be sure you sure you understand what is expected, please sign and return it to ISY.
Each student must have a signed permission slip to enter Makerspace.
We expect each student to follow these guidelines and rules:
- Follow ALL safety rules and guidelines. (See below)
- Do not be afraid to make mistakes.
- Give your best effort and be open to create.
- Be courteous and respectful of your classmates and teachers.
- Use the tools properly and with caution.
- Contribute your thoughts, ideas, and talents
- And most of all… have fun.
MakerSpace Rules
Use protective gear. Dress correctly.
- Not to wear loose-fitting clothing around moving machinery.
- Remove ties, jewelry, gloves, etc. especially around moving machinery.
- Tie back or cover long hair to keep it away from moving machinery.
- Wear only shoes that cover the entire foot, no open-toe shoes or sandals.
Prepare.
- Safety is your top priority when using the space. If you are not sure what you are doing, ask.
- Report all injuries.
- Never run, push, or horseplay in the space.
- Never use a tool unless you’ve been trained to use it safely.
- Never use machinery without asking first.
- Never work alone when using power tools. Two persons must be present and be able to see one another.
- Do not fool around, startle, or distract anyone (not even with a conversation) while either one of you is using a tool.
- Think through the entire job before starting. Prepare prints or drawings with all dimensions and specifications prior to using machines.
Use tools appropriately.
- Never use a broken tool.
- Report any broken tools or machines immediately.
- Do not remove tools from the room.
- Never walk away from a tool that is still on.
- A hard hammer should not be used to strike a hardened tool or any machine part. Use a soft-faced hammer.
- Operate machines only with all required guards and shields in place.
Clean up.
- Clean and return all tools to where you got them.
- Shut off and unplug machines when cleaning, repairing, or oiling.
- Never use a rag near moving machinery.
- Keep the floor around machines clean, dry, and free from trip hazards.
- Mop up spills immediately.
